Things To Do In The Laurel Highlands: Lincoln Highway Experience

If you are looking for a fun museum about American history in the Laurel Highlands look no further than the Lincoln Highway Experience. It is a museum all about the Lincoln Highway, America's first coast-to-coast road. First established in 1913, the Lincoln Highway connected New York, New York with San Francisco, California. This highway really revolutionized how Americans got from one place to the other.

The Lincoln Highway Experience is located in the historic Johnston House, just off Route 30 in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. From the moment you walk into the Lincoln Highway Experience, you are taken back to the era with photos and artifacts from the time period, giving you that nostalgic, Americana feel. Included is a 16-stop audio tour, a restored 1938 diner where you can enjoy a slice of pie and coffee, a Wish You Were Here Post Card and stamp, and much more.

This is one of my favorite museums in the area. Definitely plan to spend a few hours here because there is a lot to take in. I’ve been here a couple of times and each time I feel like I learn something new. My favorite part of the tour was the Wish You Were Here Postcard Exhibit. It was really cool seeing how people used postcards to communicate back in the day.
