The Fire and Ice Festival is a great local festival in Somerset, Pennsylvania to check out if you are looking for something fun to do in the Laurel Highlands. For three days in mid-January, uptown Somerset turns into a winter festival with fireworks on the first night, live music throughout the weekend, food trucks, vendors, and more. This year’s theme celebrated the history of Somerset County with over 50 Somerset-themed ice sculptures. Examples include the USS Somerset, Somerset County Courthouse, and the Quecreek Mine capsule. The highlight for me was definitely the Bald Eagle ice sculpture. It’s free to attend with plenty of free parking on the side streets. If you are looking for a fun thing to do on the weekend whether you’re passing through or spending a few days, then definitely save for next year.
